Organization
Tessera gives you several tools to keep your notes organized: tags, search, and drag-to-reorder.
Tags
Tags are colored labels you can attach to any note for quick categorization.
Adding a tag
- Find the + Tag input below the note title.
- Type a tag name and press Enter.
- The tag appears as a colored badge. Colors are assigned automatically based on the tag name.
Tags are shared across all notes in the project. As you type, an autocomplete dropdown suggests existing tags.
Removing a tag
Click the × next to any tag badge to remove it from that note.
Search
The search bar in the header lets you filter notes instantly. As you type, cards that don't match are hidden.
Search matches against:
- Note titles
- Note content (the raw Markdown text)
- Tags
Quick-create from search
If your search term matches zero existing notes, press Enter to instantly create a new note with that term as its ID. This is inspired by Notational Velocity — search, filter, and create in one fluid motion.
This workflow is significantly faster than point-and-click note creation for many users because it keeps your hands on the keyboard.
Tip
Press / from anywhere (when not in an input field) to jump to the search bar.
Reordering cards
Drag any card by its grip handle (the six-dot icon ⠿ in the top-right) to rearrange the grid. The new order is saved automatically to order.json.
The drag-and-drop reordering lets you build a visual narrative — arrange slides for a presentation, group related ideas, or sort by priority.
Dark mode
Click the theme toggle button (🌙 / ☀️) in the header to switch between light and dark modes. Your preference is saved in local storage and persists across sessions.
